Alle Vögel sind schon da,
alle Vögel, alle!
Welch ein Singen, Musiziern,
Pfeifen, Zwitschern, Tireliern!
Frühling will nun einmarschiern,
kommt mit Sang und Schalle.
Wie sie alle lustig sind,
flink und froh sich regen!
Amsel, Drossel, Fink und Star
und die ganze Vogelschar
wünschen dir ein frohes Jahr,
lauter Heil und Segen.
Was sie uns verkünden nun,
nehmen wir zu Herzen:
Wir auch wollen lustig sein,
lustig wie die Vögelein,
hier und dort, feldaus, feldein,
singen, springen, scherzen.
All the birds are already here,
All the birds, all!
What singing, music playing,
Whistling, chirping, trills!
Spring wants to arrive now,
It comes with song and sounds.
How cheerful they all are,
They move, nimble and gay!
Blackbird, thrush, chaffinch and starling,
And a whole cloud of birds
Wish you a happy new year,
Higher holiness and blessing.
What they announce to us now
Go straight to our hearts:
We want to be cheerful too,
Cheerful like the little birds,
Here and there, out and in the fields,
We want to sing, to jump, to joke.

It made sense.
We didn’t have good music education in general. The quality of music teachers & music programs were poor at best while we were in the school. It is also true in schools of America. If the kids don’t join bands or participate in some special programs, their music education will mainly come from Hollywood, TV or Internet. This song 春神 was taught in most primary schools but teachers seldom told you anything about the song or its background. It all depended on the individuals to explore more if they were interest in the music. I remember one music textbook used in the third year of the primary school. In its appendix, it introduced some classical music by 朱永鎮. He described the music & background story about (Peer Gynt Suite by Norweigian composer Grieg). He particularly mentioned 索爾未格之歌 (Solveig’s Song) & 清晨 (Morning). I sort of remembered this & in later days (senior high) went to buy a record to listen to these two songs. We had a cruise two years ago to Norweigian coast. I paid particular attention to Bergen since it is the city where Grieg was born. We did have a side tour to visit his house, Troldhaugen, now a museum. We even attended a mini concert that played his “Wedding Day at Troldhaugen”. We were there when it rained. Later we also found that Bergen is like 基隆, it rains most of the time during a year. Bergen is famous for the saying: Almost all babies were born under an umbrella. For me this is the way to learn & appreciate the music: 冶音樂,歷史,地理,天文於一爐. For nostalgic purpose, I list some youtube links about the music I just mentioned:
